Building foundations at Swindon Town Football Club
Hills Quarry Products’ Type 3 aggregate was recently chosen for the construction of a full size artificial turf pitch at Swindon Town FC Community Foundation’s new £2.4million club hub facility.
Type 3 aggregate is a permeable sub-base used for the construction of sports pitches due to its superb drainage ability. Hills supplied 5,500 tonnes of Type 3 which is used underneath the high performance sports pitch surface. The aggregate was supplied via Hills’ Rail Depot at Royal Wootton Bassett to the on-site contractor S&C Slatter which specialises in the design and installation of sports facilities. The volume of aggregate equated to 2.5 train loads.
Steve Ayres, FA Framework Manager at S&C Slatter, commented: “The ability of Hills to respond quickly and deliver our requirements to plan was impressive and key.”
Jon Holloway, Head of Swindon Town FC Community Foundation, added: “It is so exciting to see this facility being constructed after many years in the planning.”
