Site preparation works at Mortimer Quarry on the Hampshire/Berkshire border are progressing well, with mineral extraction scheduled to commence in early Spring.
In the first phase of the preparation works trained ecologists captured and relocated 295 slow-worms, 177 common lizards, 16 grass snakes and two adders. Archaeologists were on site as the top soils were stripped back and placed into bunds, although nothing has been found to date. An overhead gantry and conveyor system are being installed to transport sand and gravel. In addition the plant is being refurbished and a new weighbridge and site cabin will be installed.
